Albuquerque Engineers Still Working...

Today's news seems a bit boring, but here's some good stuff coming out of good old Albuquerque...

Dude, didn't you used to work there? I thought Engicon got a job there too recently, or is he a full time student now?

Yep,

I had a rather worthless internship there in the summer of 2000. Worked on the Crusader, which was the really heavy multi-purpose tank-thing that got axed a few years ago... Glad to hear they still work on cool stuff, though.

I know Engicon worked there, but not sure if he still does. We'll have to wait and see when he returns from his honeymoon. Speaking of which, I think he should have a spouse by now...
Congrats Engicon!

Spouse comes next Saturday :). Honeymoon will actually be over Christmass break for those keeping score at home ;).
I did intern at Honeywell this summer. Didn't get to work on the UAV (Micro Air Vehicle). Though I think I would have the oportunity to in the future if I return. The UAV (and it's sequal the MAV (Mini Air Vehicle) are actually a couple of the coolest things I could think of getting to work on. The catch being that if I make school a priority as I think I should, I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to be part of the development of said drones.

Sometimes EE's do the coolest stuff. Dude, you should try to do both if you can. If you can do your PhD thesis on something you work on at Honeywell that would be sweet. Of course it might be proprietary.

Wife and I are excited about heading to Chattanooga - I've got to learn an entire chapter of Spanish in one day though. Good luck with the rest of your preparations!

Yeah, infact that whole intellectual property thing was the deal breaker for the idea of doing both Honeywell and school this year. Well that and the fact that my current fellowship is classified as .75 full-time which is as much as I can work, through UNM, during the year. Other than those two little items I might have been able to get a contract from Honeywell through UNM. It turns out though that IP issues are a nightmere when doing research with most universities these days. UNM in particular starts at the position that if you pay them to do some research then they own all the results completely. From what I gather, this is a pretty common stance and it has really started to stifle corporate-academic interaction.
Good luck on the spanish. I think my biggest task before the wedding is to get this homework assignment done that I've been working on _for_ever_. It's amazing how when an assignment makes you feel as stupid as a brick, and you've been working on it for like a month straight, there's just not a whole lot of motivation to keep going.
