Sad State of Affairs

From the AIM, a report on our failing school system:
"...the aggregate number of college graduates who take up teaching represent the bottom third of scores on the ACT and the SAT."

If we're going to raise teachers' salaries to professional levels (which I think we should), then we also need to require the education level of professionals, for both economic balance and probability of success in the classroom.

Can I get a hooah?!

No doubt the "solution" most in education would propose would be to subsidize the further education of our current teachers.

How 'bout just removing the layers of bureaucracy that separate the customers (parents) from the product (kid's educations)?

I was taught to parrot the "feel sorry for teachers, they aren't paid what they're worth" line by my teachers in grade school...but my wife, after joining the workforce and realizing that teachers are paid MORE than she is and work 25% less...well, our attitude has changed a bit. Clean the rot!
