saw a billboard.....

that was all in Spanish and at the very bottom it said "48% of New Mexicans know Spanish, shouldn't you?"

And then it stated something like empowering New Mexico through Spanish something.....

tempted to create a billboard that says: "52% of New Mexicans don't know Spanish - and they voted for Bush :-)"

I dunno, dude, the way Bush is pandering to Hispanics is a little unsettling, esp. when it comes to illegal immigration. What's so hard about saying we are going to enforce the laws, and change them if necessary to accommodate those who just want to work?

I think immigration is Bush's weak spot. If a Dem runs as an 'immigration-hawk' then we might be in trouble.

There are 3 views that I actually have somewhat gone opposite of conservatism, and immigration's one of them.

In the past (pre-Bush), I was actually pro-immigration (which if you look, is actually the overall Republican/conservative point of view - except if your name is Pat Buchanan), but after the events that has happened in recent years (not just Muslims, but Hispanics as well), I have actually slowly gone to the "Oppose" rather than "Support" for immigration.

So yes, I agree with you here.

Bush's views are somewhat mixed I believe when it comes to immigration: I mean, he supports it on occasions by supporting temporary worker programs (but opposes amnesty) and he actually even went as far as including illegal aliens in these programs! He wishes for immigration reform in Mexico in exchange for oil development. He cut INS application time to 6 months now. He even stated on a few occasions during the presidency that "immigration is not a problem to be solved."

BUT! He opposes it too by having more border guards and have citizenship waiting periods (which in turn almost means you'll never be a citizen).

The SUPPORT from Bush DOES heavily outweigh the OPPOSE though.
